Early Life and Education

Dr. Gitangu grew up in Nairobi and graduated from Loreto Convent Msongari high school. In 1998, she moved to the United States to pursue her studies in the fields of Biology and Chemistry. She graduated from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, where she earned her B.Sc. degree (Bachelor of Science).

Dental Education and Early Career

In August 2004, Dr. Gitangu moved to Boston, Massachusetts, and enrolled in Tufts University Dental School to pursue her passion in Dental Medicine. She received a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2008. After graduation, she started working at Koolsmiles Dental Clinic for Kids, where she developed a compassion for treating children and gained vast experience in corporate dentistry. She quickly rose through the ranks and became the State Dental Director for Massachusetts’s clinics.

Advanced Education and Return to Kenya

After working for three years, Dr. Gitangu decided to further her education and joined the prestigious Harvard School of Public Health. In May 2012, she received a Master’s in Public Health, with a focus on Health Policy. With a dream to return home to Kenya, she opened her own dental clinic in Kilimani in 2014. Her goal is to transform oral health care in Kenya with a focus on preventive dental disease through dental education, nutritional counseling, and preventive dental treatments.

Professional Focus and Vision

As a dentist, Dr. Gitangu focuses on more than the aesthetics of the smile. She aims to identify and treat the underlying causes of dental concerns to deliver patients with long-lasting, natural-looking, and comfortable results. She has developed a progressive, customer-centric model and has built a reputation for quality service, striving to provide a relaxing, comfortable, and exciting experience for patients visiting the dentist.

Awards and Recognitions

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to dentistry, Dr. Gitangu was awarded the prestigious titles of FICD (Fellow, International College of Dentists) and FPFA (Fellow, Pierre Fauchard Academy) in 2018. The following year, she was honored as one of the Top 40 Under 40 women in Kenya, an award that recognizes women across the country who have demonstrated excellence in their fields.

Dr. Gitangu holds two current dental professional licenses: one in Kenya (B1048) and one in Massachusetts, USA (DN22142).

If she wasn’t a dentist, she would probably be an Interior designer. Or better yet a DJ. At her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her young brood. She also enjoys traveling, hanging out with friends and Kickboxing.
